Wow, I'm tired! It's been a rather full and busy weekend, but in a very good way. On Friday, fings
had the closing on his new condo in the Jersey City Heights, I went along with him for moral support and such. Things went rather smoothly (the lawyer for the sellers was late, but hey) and there was much signing of papers. About an hour and a half after setting foot into the lawyer's office, Fings had the keys to his new home firmly in hand. He seemed excited, frazzled, happy and stunned all at once. Even I had butterflies in my stomach. I suggested ice cream to celebrate :). We headed back to Hoboken and we hit the Cold Stone Creamery for obscenely huge quantities of ice cream which was damn yummy. After that, we made our way back to Fings' current apartment where we sort of just hung out for a while before heading out to the condo. At about 8:00pm or fings
tossed some toilet paper, soap, a sponge, a telephone and a clock radio to bring to his new home. About 10-15 mnutes later, we'd walked over to the new place (yes, it's pretty close to where he currently lives, and thank goodness he will still have a very decent commute, a 20-25 minute walk from his front door to his office, whoo-hoo!!). We wandered about the apartment and marveled--this is his new home! He has to toss things, pack up and move!! AAACK!! Ha. At one point we just lay down on the floor of what's to be his new bedroom, the lights were off and he voiced his utter marvel at the situation, he was still trying to wrap his mind around it all. Pretty heady stuff, you know? He called his parents just to basically say "Hey, guess where I'm calling from?" :). A little before 10pm we decided to high-tail it back to his apartment in Hoboken as the next day was going to be a busy one.
So, yesterday was the annual May Day Party as thrown by 1cmf
, but before we could head down, we had to run back to the condo because they've been repainting the common areas and someone needed to open up the condo door so the door frame could be painted. Of course on the way, there was an interlude of dvd shopping in front of Blockbuster--7 dvds for $20! So, $40 and 20 minutes or so after spotting the dvd sale, we split up down the block from the new domicile, I bought some pizza for lunch (right, Luigi's pizza isn't that hot--el cheapo cheese, bleah) and he went straight to the building. Happily, by the time I ran across the street and went upstairs, the door and doorframe was freshly painted black, yay! So then we just had to wait for eafm
plus their lovely daughter because they were graciously and wonderfully giving us a ride down to the May Day party. In the meantime we ran around all of the rooms again, and then spent some time reading and chilling out. Eafm & Thudthwacker fortunately found their way with little difficulty, fings
enjoyed giving the nickel tour to his new place :). They ooohed and ahhed in all of the right places :P.
So, after a while on the road we made it to the May Day party fashionably late ;). There was a nice crowd of people, many who we know, among them were LJers (buzz
; the "Katschatten" family consisting of: musickat
& the little Mercurial Maiden; catwithbell
with her husband A. and their little one W., I'm sure I've missed listing some LJ ppl who were there, sorry!), and many who were new people to meet. Lots of kids running round, it was great! Good snacks, good food (yay for 1cmf
's mad grilling skillz), and wonderful company :). mister_kat
made some wonderful sangria (yes, sure did get a mite tipsy from that!) and grilled a delicious marinated leg of lamb, yowza. There was a Maypole in the late afternoon, and a lovely, lovely bonfire at night. Toasty and mesmerizing. Many, many thanks to "Onecrazyfamily" for again hosting such a great get together! And thanks again to the "Thwackers" for the ride (haha, I am being liberal in my nicknaming of families, please forgive me!), to and from the party.
Today's excitement consisted of fings
parents and brother coming up to see the new digs. They arrived in Hoboken around noon, and we went to lunch at Houlihan's in Weehawken. Had a nice time chatting and catching up. Then we zipped over to Jersey City. Thankfully, there was parking available right across the street. His folks and brother really liked the place, his mom took lots and lots of pictures. They were all happy and proud, it was really nice to see. ( Oh, yeah, and one last thing. )
