Well, this particular book already had me rolling my eyes a bit from the get-go. When I got to these phrases in a ridiculous love scene, it was truly too much. For the record, it was "Mr. Darcy Takes a Wife: Pride & Prejudice Continues", and I was sort of looking forward to it in a way, but approached it with a pinch of salt. Good thing, or I would have been truly disappointed. I'm not bti on fanfiction, which essentially is; and I was a bit wary of Jane Austen characters meeting sexy modern-day style writing. Sigh. And frankly, there was no excuse, none!! I read "Fingersmith" by Sarah Waters and it's entirely possible to write something that takes place in the 19th century and throw in some (teh lesbian!!) sex in the mix with results that do not make the eyes roll in near embarassment--quite the opposite!! I passed the book along to [personal profile] eafm in hopes that she will find it more palatable. It wasn't BAD book per se; (as far as I got along, really enjoyed the bits about Lydia Bennet Wickham and her life post P&P), just not my bag.
