I have a client who is both better (slightly less crap) and worse (much much dirtier and disorganized) than that person.

It's a sickness. And a very hard one to treat. Ugh.

Yes, this one isn't as bad as some I've seen online; there is tons of junk, but little filth. This one on the other hand, is no where near as cluttered, but is absolutely filthy (warning, photos on page not safe for those with weak stomachs).

I am actually pretty impressed by how CLEAN the home is kept, despite so much stuff!

I know it's an illness, I think I read some people can be treated with OCD medication?

[personal profile] fings has some hoarder tendencies, it seems to run in his family. His late uncle and his late wife had a TREMENDOUS amount of stuff that they had accumulated for 50 years. Took a couple of years for my in-laws to clear it out (the uncle had no children), having an auction at the end of the least junky stuff. When i get in cleaning/declutter mode around here, I remind K about his uncle! It helps him to get past his tendency to want to keep something cause "what if I need it some day" or whatever.

I've seen that before and I love it. LOVE!

Weird, I was just thinking about that woman's house while tossing more of our junk. Could have sworn he eventually took down the thread because he didn't want to embarrass her anymore.

hope's mom is a hoarder and we haven't been allowed in the house in 5+ years, so we know it's all worse than it had been. le sigh. she makes jokes about the yardsale we'll have when her time comes, which i know is a coping mechanism/etc. but i'm annoyed as fuck that we *will* have to deal with it all. i always think about the amount of money down the drain on all this random crap she has to buy. it's all sad and incredibly frustrating, esp. now that we have kids. now she has new stuff to buy (baby/kid stuff), yippee, and it comes to our house. and her grandchildren have never been to their grandparents' house. that statement has had no effect on changing her behavior, which doesn't surprise me, but i wish it would!

Oh, I'm sorry! I don't blame you for being annoyed just contemplating the level of chaos you will have to wrangle when the time comes. My in-laws spent a couple of years working on my husband's late uncle's home. He had lived there for about 50 years, with his wife who had passed away some years before he did. They had no children, and a hell ton on stuff. Just terrible. Most of the bedrooms upstairs were so bad, the doors couldn't be opened all the way for all the stuff.

I hope you are able to somewhat limit the stuff she gets for the kids?

I remember seeing that years ago, when I'd just started as a consultant. I lost the link eventually during a computer move. Thanks!

Thank Kurt for showing it me!
