(no subject)

Nicole Kidman is crediting "fertility waters" for her successful pregnancy.

Oh, REALLY? How about kissing my big fat Puerto Rican ass, you bullshitter!?!

But hey, it might be a nice excuse for you and fings to take a vacation. Shoot, I would use ANY excuse I could to take a vacation to Australia, like needing to buy food for my son's stuffed "pet" kangaroo.

[identity profile] yolen.livejournal.com 2008-09-24 11:19 pm (UTC)(link)
[personal profile] fings actually went to Australia back in the day, he was there for New Year's celebrations for 1990, I believe for 3 weeks or so. So jealous! I don't think we'd ever get to go, it's expensive as hell, and he isn't looking forward to a flight that long ever again. But yeah, what a place to visit!

[identity profile] eyelid.livejournal.com 2008-09-24 06:20 pm (UTC)(link)
well, it's not like we didn't know she was a nutjob.

[identity profile] yolen.livejournal.com 2008-09-24 11:20 pm (UTC)(link)
A lil nutty, yes.

[identity profile] meglett.livejournal.com 2008-09-24 06:29 pm (UTC)(link)
well fucking a, SIGN ME UP. :eyeroll: maybe we should all just relax, too.

aaaaaaaggggggghhhhhhhhhhh.

[identity profile] yolen.livejournal.com 2008-09-24 11:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Don't forget go on a vacation! Bleah!

[identity profile] breakableheart.livejournal.com 2008-09-24 06:34 pm (UTC)(link)
I do like the comment she makes at the end where she talks about how nice it is to be able to do it again. I think people forget she already has two kids, you know?

Anyway, I don't credit "relax" for my pregnancy, but I do think that getting out of my extremely high-stress career path job with the crazy boss helped. I wasn't planning on getting pregnant, wasn't trying, wasn't charting, wasn't anything... I had long since given up (after 14 years, who wouldn't?)

Then one day *poof* I was pregnant. Maybe, swimming in the water or no, that was Nicole's lucky streak. She got the magic bullet *poof* that everyone dreams of. Lucky girl! (As am I and I never forget it!)

[identity profile] breakableheart.livejournal.com 2008-09-24 06:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Also, that town should thank her/curse her for the OMG tourist industry she JUST set up with her endorsement. You KNOW people will flock there from all over the world to swim in the fertility water.

[identity profile] yolen.livejournal.com 2008-09-24 11:23 pm (UTC)(link)
I guess that's part of what bothers me. I'd hate think of desperate people spending money on such an expensive trip to dip their stuff in "fertility waters". I have little patience for charlatanism :/.

[identity profile] breakableheart.livejournal.com 2008-09-24 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Agree. I just don't think she did it on purpose. I think she's dumb. And she's desperately trying to divert attention from everyone asking her what fertility treatment finally worked (because I think that's what did it)(either that or lucky lucky lucky, not water).

But yeah, the thought of people going there with high hopes... it makes my heart fill with sorrow for them. *head shake*

[identity profile] yolen.livejournal.com 2008-09-24 11:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, she strikes me as dumb :/.

Yeah, it's just...yeah. :(

[identity profile] hilarymax.livejournal.com 2008-09-24 10:32 pm (UTC)(link)
2 adopted children! So this is the first birth she has had. Sorry I don't know you and don't want to offend you but I think she is full of it! It is her business to talk about her infertility or not but telling people swimming in the "fountain" made her pregnant doesn't make infertile couples feel any better!

[identity profile] breakableheart.livejournal.com 2008-09-24 10:51 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't make a judgment about whether or not she's making infertile people feel better. I only say that it's nice she is acknowledging that she's parented two other children. That's all.

Maybe she really believes swimming in the fountain brought her fertility? Who is to say? I think IVF brought her fertility but I'm a cynical person. Either she had fertility treatments or she got lucky lucky lucky. Or both. Maybe she had a whack of fertility treatments over the years that didn't work and then got lucky (as was my case).

[identity profile] yolen.livejournal.com 2008-09-24 11:29 pm (UTC)(link)

LOL, maybe she swam in follitstim. Or yeah, got lucky. But to believe in fertility waters, I would give ANYONE a fisheye for that!

[identity profile] breakableheart.livejournal.com 2008-09-24 11:34 pm (UTC)(link)
I just have to say that in the end she had a baby, and that makes her one of the lucky ones (regardless of how she had it, fertility treatments or no). Too many people don't get that particular happy ending - they get another one, but not that one. So while everyone speculates on the source (water, follistim, luck) it does not matter. She got the gold ring.

[identity profile] yolen.livejournal.com 2008-09-24 11:58 pm (UTC)(link)
This is true, she did get the gold ring and I'm happy for her on that count. I guess I have an unreasonable expectation for people who have had to deal with infertility to not spout stupid crap. And because she's a celebrity, people will give her credence. I just *know* that someone out there is going to have to deal with their mother/sister/mil/friend/coworker telling them "oh, you are infertile, go swim in some magical waters!". It just strikes me as more ammunition for insensitive fertiles say stupid things, and there are so many infertile people already living with a barrage of relentless horseshit on top of their own personal fears and pain.

[identity profile] breakableheart.livejournal.com 2008-09-25 12:13 am (UTC)(link)
True enough. She's not exactly impressed me with her brilliance in the past. Celebrities, because of their "idol" position, need to be extra careful of what they say. I think she's dumb AND I don't think she thought about what she was saying.

[identity profile] yolen.livejournal.com 2008-09-24 11:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, it is possible she got very lucky, and that's cool. But man, fertility waters!?!? I know I'm being overly sensitive, but gag me with the proverbial spoon, yo ;).

[identity profile] zeldazonk.livejournal.com 2008-09-24 07:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Apparently she doesn't know that babies come from sex, not the water?

See, abstinence education fails again! :P

[identity profile] yolen.livejournal.com 2008-09-24 11:30 pm (UTC)(link)
LOL, damn you abstinence education!

[identity profile] screamingdolai.livejournal.com 2008-09-24 07:10 pm (UTC)(link)
I have holy water from Lourdes, holy water from Knock (Ireland), oil "miraculously" secreted from the painting of a saint, a whole community of nuns and a really nice priest pray over me.

I've had friends who are Wiccan do fertility ceremonies for me, I've had a 2000 year-old Roman coin (OK, I got pregnant with that, but miscarried) and I've had pagan blessed peanuts and other fertile symbols at my bedside.

I've had acupuncture, a change of diet, and Chinese herbs.

I've had medical assesments, fertility drugs, rather uncomfortable procedures, fibroids removed and tubes unblocked, and a failed IVF cycle.

I don't really hold out hope for fertility waters. Nicole, I sided with you against Tom Cruise, but please, for the love of whoever, stop being an ignorant slut, you cunting hippie.

[identity profile] yolen.livejournal.com 2008-09-24 11:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, she I hope she enjoys the hell out of her baby and STFU about this already!

[identity profile] somerandomchic.livejournal.com 2008-09-24 10:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Riiiiiiiiiight. Maybe there are sperm and clomid in the water. OR in her hoohaa. OR both. UGH. STUPID CREEPY and WEIRD.

Maybe someone from the town's tourism board paid her off to say that?

[identity profile] yolen.livejournal.com 2008-09-24 11:39 pm (UTC)(link)
It's just craziness.

[identity profile] media-junkie.livejournal.com 2008-09-24 11:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Ummmm...let's cut the lady a teeny little break. I don't think she was saying any of this as a special message to people with fertility issues.
She wasn't talking to you specifically, she was just talking. Also, she was one of SEVEN women who swam there and turned up preggers. Now I don't think that water had squat to do with it, but those are some amazing odds. You can't totally blame a woman dumb enough to put up with Scientology for being a little superstitious about something that unusual.

[identity profile] yolen.livejournal.com 2008-09-25 12:02 am (UTC)(link)
Well, yeah, she is kind of on the dumb side, lol.

I know if someone hasn't been in the infertile shoes, it can be hard to understand, but let me copy and paste a reply of mine from above that may shed a little light on what I'm thinking/feeling:

"I guess I have an unreasonable expectation for people who have had to deal with infertility to not spout stupid crap. And because she's a celebrity, people will give her credence. I just *know* that someone out there is going to have to deal with their mother/sister/mil/friend/coworker telling them "oh, you are infertile, go swim in some magical waters!". Point taken - I can see how adding to the missinformation pool is harmful.
