Tipping the Velvet is a damn fine mini series, highly entertaining, engaging, moving and amusing. You should all rent it!

Last night we watched "The Four Feathers" (1939) version. It sucked ass, I hated just about everyone in the movie for being a MORON. [personal profile] fings didn't care for it, either. Couldn't send it back to Netflix fast enough.

I have changed the layout of my journal, whoohoo, exciting stuff :P.

[personal profile] fings and I didn't much of anything constructive today. I'm simultaneously glad to have spent a day of loafing with my sweetie, and a bit regretful that we didn't get any of the numerous tasks we have looming over our heads attended to. Ah, well.

Blue Sky Pomegrante Soda is DELICIOUS!

I'm currently reading "The Dress Lodger" by Sheri Holman. I'm about a 1/3 the way through, and it's finally just sort of picking up. Bleah, I just realized I never finished giving my ratings of the books I read last year. Better give up the idea of writing mini-reviews for them and just post the damn list and how they rated.

I can't believe it's almost September, this year is flying....

This past weekend [personal profile] fings and I: ate delicious Mexican food & drank yummy strawberry margaritas, went to the library, went to the mall and saw "The Matador" (very fun movie with Pierce Brosnan), Fings picked up several movies on sale as Suncoast is going out of business (I picked up a $3 Nightmare Before Christmas nightlight), I picked up a new black shirt and a purple nightie (my first ever!) at Lane Bryant, did some grocery shopping, and went to a SuperBowl party on Sunday where [profile] the_malum & [profile] mitch37 were in attendance along with other nice and friendly people. It was a good weekend!!

And now I am off to bed, I can hardly keep my darned eyes open.

I am so sick and tired of my effing period. After almost 21 years of this nonsense, I guess that is no surprise. Blech.
On that charming note, g'night! :P

[personal profile] fings and I spent a few hours on New Year's Eve with my parents. We had some dinner and watched "Like Water for Chocolate", which my parents had never seen and they thoroughly enjoyed. My mother in particular appreciated that it was a Mexican film and my folks had fun pointing out the people who they recognized from the Mexican soap operas. My oldest sister and her 3 sons popped by a little while before we headed out for the night.

Later on we went to a party that an old college pal of fing's was having in Hoboken. [profile] the_malum was there as well as [profile] mitch37 and various other people, only one other who I knew in addition to the host. Everyone I didn't know was very friendly, it was nice to see the people I know, and the the booze was copious. I had a nice time, got trashed, laid a big ole kiss on my sweetie when the ball dropped and then felt supremely sentimental, nostalgic, wistful, regretful over some of the past and very hopeful for all of my future. We went to bed at about 4am.

New Year's Day, we woke up around 1pm and enjoyed being absolute bums! I tossed out the idea of heading off to a movie, but [personal profile] fings was of the opinion that he'd want to go to the movies if the theatre were 2 blocks away. Alas. But that was fine, as I was basically of the same opinion! We played video games, watched stuff (yay, "Battlestar Galactica"! yay "Finding Neverland"!), read, ate and loafed. It was wonderful. Today was more of the same until I headed back home, except some cleaning was actually accomplished :).

Going back to work tomorrow is going to kick my ass a bit! But that's ok, I'll recover.

Life is good.

I read 61 books last year, I have to post my 2005 book list sometime this week.

I am not getting trashed again till my birthday rolls around. And even then, only a wee trashed ;).

Here's is fervently hoping that the new year brings good things to all.

I can't figure right now how to include the thumbnail of this photo in this post from the LJ Scrapbook Gallery, so phooey for now, here's the link:

That weird band across [personal profile] fings' forehead is reflected light from the kitchen. The kitchen is shiny.

Last night [personal profile] fings and I had a date at the mall. We had some yummy chinese food for dinner and saw "The 40 Year Old Virgin". Very funny. Yes, there is some sophomoric humour but really in the end it's a very sweet movie. Steve Carrell is an absolute gem. And the movie has one of the most fun endings I've seen in a while. I laughed a lot and left the theatre with the warm fuzzies. Go see it!!

I bet my friend C. is beside himself with anticipation as far as the "Deuce Bigelow, American Gigolo" movie is concerned. My goodness, now there's a sequel I wasn't anticipating. Silly me.

I wonder how many people know that Rob Schneider is half Filipino?

Nerd: At this point, my expectations are so low, as long as Darth Vader's in it and a lot of people get killed, I'll be happy.

Heh, I'm watching "Tootsie" on Turner Classic Movies. Sure, it's a bit dated but I still get a big kick out of this movie. Dustin Hoffman did a pretty good job of moving like a woman. Bill Murray is all rumpled and cute.

So, spent Thanksgiving with [livejournal.com profile] fings and his family in "the wilds of Hunterdon County" (as he puts it, haha) and thankfully it all went smoothly. Everybody was very nice and made me feel welcome (I got a big kick out of his Uncle Carl). Met his parents and an assortment of uncles, aunts and cousins (I'd already met his brother on Election Day). I'm not sure how I managed to not be nauseous from nerves at the prospect, but I'm glad I wasn't. In fact, I was more of a wreck when I had him meet my parents over dinner back in August. Anyway, after Thanksgiving lunch, we spent some time at his aunt & uncle's place, then we spent a little while at his parent's place before they drove us to the train station. Got to drive by their farm and see the room that was his when he was growing up. Oh, and according to the growth lines his mom penciled over the years on one of the walls, he was a couple of inches taller than I am now on 11/29/76, when he was 11 1/2 and I was 2 1/2. Damn, I'm short. And I was shown various and sundry photos. What a chubby, blond, adorable baby he was, awwwww!!

I finally finished Stephen King's Dark Tower series. Sigh. When I put it down, I have to admit to being a little teary eyed. I was/am a bit heartbroken. The last 2 books of the series were self-indulgent claptrap! I can't believe I waited half my life too see this series end in the manner it did. He wrote in his afterword things like "hey, if you don't like how it's ended, don't blame me I'm just the messenger, it might not the ended I expected but it's the *right* ending, blahblahblahblah". Yeah, right. It was crap. You can tell he just gave up, he'd lost his passion for it. No sense of humour. And the *bitterness*, whoo! So bitter at his fans for actually wanting some closure. So bitter than we actually breathlessly anticipated the series living up to all of the promises of the first few books. Accusing us of basically being poopy-heads that were so focused on the ending, we did not enjoy the journey of the tale. King can *Bite Me*. I enjoyed the journey just fine, until he started writing a pile of BS.

The mounting for the lighting fixture in my living room has looked suspicious for a while. Well, now it's hanging about 3/4 off the ceiling! My dad is trying to search for someone to come replace the area, possibly the whole ceiling. Peachy! Well, I guess it's all ok as long as the ceiling doesn't crash down on my head. Or the computer.

Saw "The Incredibles" yesterday. Now I was expecting a good movie, but was floored but how *great* it was. So much fun, amazing to look at visually, and there was actually a great story to boot. Left me wanting to see it again, and wanting a sequel ASAP. But alas, [livejournal.com profile] fings made an excellent point: with the Pixar/Disney relationship soon coming to an end, and with Disney basically owning the rights to "The Incredibles", that puts the kibosh on a sequel. Too bad, because even if a sequel were to be of a slightly lesser quality, it would still be pretty good! Can't help but wonder if Disney will try and capitalize on this success with some garbage "The Incredibles" Saturday morning cartoon, or some such thing. Hopefully there's something in the contracts with Pixar that would prevent something like that from happenening. So, if you haven't see it yet, go see it, you won't be disappointed.
