Several photos published Tuesday showed Spears driving her SUV with her son, Sean Preston, perched on her lap rather than strapped into a car seat in the back seat. Spears said she did it because of a “horrifying, frightful encounter with the paparazzi.”
The photos show Spears holding the wheel of the car with one hand, and her 4-month-old baby in the other. A person is shown sitting in the passenger seat next to Spears.
“I was terrified that this time the physically aggressive paparazzi would put both me and my baby in danger,” Spears said in a statement released late Monday. “I instinctively took measures to get my baby and me out of harm’s way, but the paparazzi continued to stalk us,” she said. “I love my child and would do anything to protect him.”

MILWAUKEE - A Roman Catholic school is canceling a fashion show by American Girl, a manufacturer of a popular line of dolls and children's books, amid criticism that is contributing to an organization that support abortion rights and acceptance of lesbians.
St. Luke School in Brookfield notified its parents of the decision through bulletins at Masses over the weekend. Money raised through ticket and raffle sales was to go toward a new playground and a refurbished library.
"It's a bargain we'll just have to pass up," wrote Frank Malloy, St. Luke pastor. "The cost is too high. Our integrity isn't for sale."
American Girl spokeswoman Julie Parks said no other groups have canceled because of the issue. The fashion shows include the company's popular historic dolls being carried by girls who dress up in the same outfits.

Jun. 30th, 2005 08:14 amSpain just became the 3rd country in the world to legalize gay marriage! I am behind in my news as I did not even read about this percolating. I heard about Canada getting ready to legalize it soon (yay!), but not this. This is wonderful!! The legislation also allows for the inheritance of property and adoption of children. Take that, stupid Catholic Church, and everyone else who thinks it's any of their goddamned business who people of legal age and sound minds decide to whom to pledge their troth!! Perhaps our lawmakers will become sane in s similar fashion within my lifetime, whoohoo!

Assuming he didn't do it on purpose, I feel bad for the kid. I remember sitting through a few midterms and finals in the past where I was convinced I was going to hurl all over the exam. Of course that might have had something to do with my diet consisting of cigarettes and caffeine in the day or so leading up to the exams! Throw nerves and lack of sleep on top of it all, and I almost marvel I didn't hurl on any of my profs or their tests.
