I've known a few mothers in Philadelphia who created names for their kids. A former co-worker of mine had daughters named Marayah and Nia, which actually aren't too bad.
Marayah is a spin on Mariah (not too bad as far as variations go, I've seen much worse). As for Nia, it's likely that she watched a lot of the tv show "Fame" (<http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001604/) back in the day :). Nia is pretty.
