Crikey. On the one hand, the Chinese seem a little guillotine-happy. On the other, a short drop with a sudden stop for one or two high-ranking officials whose selfish decisions have resulted in people dying might not be the worst policy.

It says that China executes more people than all other countries combined. I had no idea.

It does say that he's got two years to show that he's appropriately "reformed" (and something tells me he'll be very highly motivated to "reform"), after which his sentence will probably be commuted to life in prison, but still. Damn.

I had a college prof. that lived in China for a while. He said if a person was executed, the gov't. would bill their family for the bullet. This was years ago, so I don't know if that's changed.
