Well, I was one sleepy bitch when I went for my child Development Associate exam yesterday morning. I was running on fumes, post-election joy, and a little caffeine. The reviewer and I had agreed to meet at my local library branch. She was running late, and I had visions at one point of her calling my cell to say she couldn't make it, and of me being simultaneously pissed and relieved. Well, she was just 10 minutes late, so it wasn't bad. She was very nice and friendly, and we had some good chatting about the election results. The test was ridiculously easy. There was a 60 question multiple choice written and a 15 question verbal. Some of the wrong answers had me chuckling, they were so blatantly WRONG. I think I got one written answer wrong, no big deal. After reviewing my portfolio the night before, and making minor corrections and additions, I'd put the portfolio at a B+ level. The only X factors are the parent letters commenting on me, and the observation manual filled out by the teacher in whose class I was volunteering in. I'm pretty sure I'll get my credential, I should know in 4-6 weeks. And if not, eh, not the end of the world. I'd have up to 4 years to try again. That would suck, though! But not the end of the world. Once I get my credential, it will be good for 3 years. I'd have to do a minimum of in service continuing ed hours to renew the credential for another 5 years. I'll be a full-time mom and homemaker for at least those 3 three years (hopefully more if we are blessed with a second child), most likely more, but it will be nice to know I should be able to get a pre-school job once I'm ready to go back to work. Here's hoping my plan works out.
