California blows for voting this way, but I have to agree with the court ruling. I don't see how they could have decided any other way.

Hopefully enough of the old people will die off, and they can have a re-vite soon

It's not just old people... California has a very large conservative base population. How else would we have elected both Reagan and Arnie to the Governor's Office??

It's sad, that's for sure... and Gay Marriage will come, just not soon enough for those who "get it" now.

It is primarily old people. Everyone who voted for Reagan is now old, and the Schwartz is for gay marriage.

The fact is, if you had everyone over 50 move out of the state, Proposition 8 would never have passed.

But remember - the vote was back in December - not much changed yesterday. The Supreme Court had a specific issue on the table - was Prop 8 done legally, not if it was the right thing to do.

If the court had gone any other way, it would be a huge plus for the anti-gay marriage people who would yet again point to "activist judges" for "forcing" things on the majority of the people who are not yet ready for Gay Marriage. It will come back to another vote and Gay Marriage will be here - just not now, at least, not for most gay people.

The good news that so many people seem to be forgetting in all this is that the 18K marriages performed during the open window are not dissolved. Those marriages still stand.

Also would mention that overturning the vote would have led to the people of CA losing their right to amend their own constitution without their Govt Approval(saw this from anti-Prop8 legal scholars)

A battle loss...the war is being won and there will be another round and victory in CA down the road.

What's the word I'm looking for? Oh yeah.

Chickenshits

A half and half ruling that will please no one. Way to go indeed.
