Dear Madonna:

You are a racist, baby stealing wretch, and shame on the Malawians who are helping you. If you really wanted to help that kid, you'd hand him over to his dad with a fricking check for a few grand so he could raise him himself. Then pick a kid who is actually an orphan. Even better, don't take any, you've already got 2. Be a humanitarian, great; donate money, fund orphanages, make sure there is better food and water for some of those kids, whatever. But you have to exchange help for someone else's child?

Eff You,
Yolen

geez.. you think it's just another way for celebs to have themselves in the spotlight... i'm sure that's pretty obvious.

wow - that article is really sad.

i feel so much more comfortable agreeing with people (i need to work on that) (the comfort thing, not the agreeing thing), and i am in agreement with you here.

i wrote a song about madonna a few years ago: though i was feeling sympathetic towards her at the time. i only remember the first two lines:

Oh, Madonna, don't you wanna
let your hair turn gray

Oh, Madonna, give up kabbalah,
we all go to the same place anyway

as an adopted child removed away from my culture...I can relate!

That article blew my mind because my blond/blue-eyed "father" used to scream in my face "don't look at me with those eyes!!" What gut wrenching memories that brought back!!!!

I recently asked my "mother" in a melt down "if she was happy and fulfilled~knowing that she robbed me from my culture, religion, language and people"...she answered that I should be "over it" by now and that it really didn't matter.

It didn't matter so much to her to ask ANYTHING about my bio-family. Infact, she THREW OUT any papers concerning the matter which has left me with NOTHING other than non-identifing info from Albany.

I feel like my whole life is a lie. My "name", the "culture" I have been handed, religion that was taught...EVERYTHING....but worse is I have NOTHING to pass down to my children :(

oh, man, how awful! my wishes are with you as you seek this information. you never know what might turn up. you know what country/language/culture you were adopted from, right? Maybe one day you can travel there and even if you don't find anything definite, the atmosphere you will soak up is something you can pass down you your children. *You* are something you pass down to your children. Parents can be horrible (i know, i *am* one) even when they mean well, but no adopting parent should ever throw out records.

Well...the funny thing is I am from "here"!!!! I am Mohawk~with a pinch of French & Irish that I know of! There seems to be more to me though (LOL) ...people always call me 'Hawaiian' or 'Japanese' as well!!! I want to know!!!!

I was adopted in Feb. of '63 before federal law was passed forbidding the adoption of Native children to non-Native parents (What a great law!!!) and have some info from Albany about my mother and brother who is a year older!!

I have heard that there is a genetic blood test available that will tell you EXACTLY what you are and what part of the world your ancestors came from! It's around $150 and it's worth it to me!!! I just need to ask my doctor if he can do it and I'll be down with that!!!

My children have made me EXTREMELY happy and have given me a sense of belonging....now we need to find some ancestors!!! :D

Oh, how awful, I'm sorry. I know you've mentioned that your adoptive parents weren't that peachy, but my goodness.

:D awwww...your so sweet to me & the icon is perfect!!!!

I try not to dwell on the past but sometimes it comes creeping in & my kids put me in perspective!!

I also pretend that 'Atticus Finch' was my parent and not the crazy/abusive pair I got! ;)

If she actually wanted to raise the kid herself and not hand him off to her trusted nannies - the ones who raised Lourdes and Rocco while she was off traveling, doing shows, kissing Britney, etc - I might be a *tiny bit* sympathetic to her cause. But the fact that she's using the adoption as a means to keep the spotlight on herself is sick and sad.

You know, I thought it was kinda kool until I read about how the kid is not *actually* an orphan.

PHOOEY!
