I have NO patience for books that have terms like "torch of love" and "womanly portal". NONE.

LOL - those kinds of phrases crack me up.

Most of the books they come from suck but they come from a nitch of the romance genre and sometimes a book is good enough that phrases like that don't stick out like rusty nails.

Well, this particular book already had me rolling my eyes a bit from the get-go. When I got to these phrases in a ridiculous love scene, it was truly too much. For the record, it was "Mr. Darcy Takes a Wife: Pride & Prejudice Continues", and I was sort of looking forward to it in a way, but approached it with a pinch of salt. Good thing, or I would have been truly disappointed. I'm not bti on fanfiction, which essentially is; and I was a bit wary of Jane Austen characters meeting sexy modern-day style writing. Sigh. And frankly, there was no excuse, none!! I read "Fingersmith" by Sarah Waters and it's entirely possible to write something that takes place in the 19th century and throw in some (teh lesbian!!) sex in the mix with results that do not make the eyes roll in near embarassment--quite the opposite!! I passed the book along to [personal profile] eafm in hopes that she will find it more palatable. It wasn't BAD book per se; (as far as I got along, really enjoyed the bits about Lydia Bennet Wickham and her life post P&P), just not my bag.

oops

*I'm not big on fanfiction

At least the book was free! [personal profile] fings found it last year with a pile of books waiting for the recycling truck ;).

I have to admit, I'm loving it -- probably precisely because of the sort of thing that drove you nuts (I've been meaning to send along a Thank You, but things have been a little extra nutso, over here). It's got me laughing outloud at the absurdity. I especially liked Lydia describing how Wickham's manhood waggled at her -- or was it his "lollydoodle"?

I'm very glad you are enjoying it! I have to admit, Lydia was pure gold in the book (as far as I read), and the whole attempt at "educating" Jane and Elizabeth was very funny! I *wanted* to to enjoy the book more than I did, but man, something in me just rebelled. Hope it's providing some well deserved escapism ;).

This was a modern "sequel" to Pride & Prejudice, so I was expecting Romantic, not cliche-riddled Romance novel stuff cause I don't abide that stuff. Oh, well.

Don't forget "quivering thighs"! Yeah, that sort of thing never did anything for me.

Ugh, that one too. It's always a challenge to find good erotic fiction since most of it is *so* bad

There are womanly portals about, cool, I have not been this worked up since Britteny Spears sang that she was going to be my slave! Where do I find one of these womanly portals, I've got the torch of love, I chicken wires some oils soaked rags on this piece of driftwood I was saving, but I did it in a loving manner so that counts right?

Be well
